National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students (PKPIM) condemn the government of Bangladesh for Constitutional and Human Rights violations by imprisoning top leaders of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (BJI) on trumped up charges and for conspiring to establish a puppet state and one party government.
The President of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former Cabinet Minister, Maulana Motiur Rahman Nizami including his deputy, Maulana Delawar Hossain Sayedee and Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed were arrested on June 29, 2010 on such a indistinct charge that the court immediately allowed them bail.
Among the charges filed against the BJI officials were reports of comparison allegedly made by the Ameer to Prophet Muhammad, a charge apparently concocted by reporters of the regime’s controlled media.
Another serious charge was the alleged involvement of Jamaat-e-Islami members in the killing of a student at Radshahi University, which led to the arrests and detentions of hundreds of BJI’s top leaders and thousands of its active members throughout Bangladesh. The crackdown against BJI as an Islamic organization and political opposition is harsh and abusive of the fundamental human rights of the suspects.
Supporters and sympathizers of the BJI in the government, in media and business circles, including Opposition whips in Parliament, judges and lawyers are not safe. Thousands have reportedly been incarcerated and tortured. Opposition Dailies, TV - Radio stations and other establishments critical of the regime’s evil designs have been closed and their owners and personnel tortured and imprisoned.
The government has evolved into a totalitarian state and has shed all forms of democratic governance. It has miserably failed to implement the election commitments made in December 2008 and is in no way able to do it in the foreseeable future, therefore, the fear of being defeated in the coming elections.
PKPIM call on the freedom-loving peoples of the world to institute appropriate political pressures and sanctions against the government of Bangladesh for trampling upon human rights and democracy, by stifling dissent, imprisoning and torturing all Islamic and opposition parties in its bid to establish a totalitarian communist state subservient only to its benefactor.
