Show our Concern

KUALA LUMPUR: Members of three Muslim non-governmental organisations (NGOs) sacrificed their sleep to help keep the peace at churches in Sentul and Damansara last night.

Kerja Badan Tarbiyah Sejagat, Malaysian Muslim Consumer Association and National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students (PKPIM) put out 15 volunteers to patrol 10 Christian places of worship, working in two shifts from 11pm yesterday till dawn today.

The patrol's co-organiser, PKPIM vice-president Abu Qassim Nor Azmi, said the volunteers gathered at 9.30pm yesterday at Batas' office in Ampang where they were briefed.

“Beside patrol rounds, we also met with church officials to tell them of our intentions.

“We did this because we wanted to ensure peace in the community.”

The volunteers took more than 20 minutes patrolling every church. Among those visited were the Church of St Joseph in Jalan Sentul and Church of the Risen Christ in Jalan Ipoh.
